Five-star housebuilder, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, is helping to write the next chapter of housebuilding by donating course books to construction students at Leeds College of Building.

The housebuilder donated £250 worth of educational books to the College’s library, for use by Level 3 Construction and Built Enviroment students,

to celebrate International School Library Month, which runs throughout October.

Barratt Homes is dedicated to supporting the communities in which it builds, and to helping ensure the future of the construction industry through activities and donations such as this.

Darren Johnson, Construction Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: “We’re keen to encourage more young people into construction, which can be a very longstanding and rewarding career. With Leeds College of Building so close to our developments St Andrew’s View in Morley and St Oswald’s View in Methley, we wanted to support the students in Leeds by donating these books, for them to have easy access to help with their studies.

“We hope these kind of donations will help address the wider skills shortage currently faced by the industry, and we look forward to hearing the success stories from the College. Who knows, one day these students could become part of Barratt Homes’ construction team!”

Katie Hardisty, Work Placement Officer at Leeds College of Building commented: “We’re delighted to have support from Barratt Homes; the book donation was really generous and will help ensure our construction students have access to books they rely on for their studies. The books will be well looked after at home in our library, and will be excellent resources that our current and future students will make use of.”
