To mark Road Safety Week (19-25 November), local housebuilder, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, has teamed up with pupils from Meltham Moor Primary School to design road safety signs for its Helme Ridge development.
The children were invited to design posters highlighting the dangers of driving too fast on residential roads, and encouraging drivers to slow down. Three winning designs will be made into signs to be displayed at the entrance to the Helme Ridge development in Meltham, and the children will be invited to unveil them.
Tracey Morris, Sales Adviser at Helme Ridge, visited the school to meet the 27 Year 3 children that took part in the competition and to collect the entries.
Tracey said: “It’s vital to us to support the communities in which we build, and we want to help ensure children are safe in the area around our Helme Ridge development. We were delighted to collaborate with Meltham Moor Primary School to design new road safety signs for the site entrance. The entries are all excellent; it’s going to be difficult to pick just three winners!”
Hazel Marsh, Year 3 teacher at Meltham Moor Primary School, commented:
“We were thrilled to be invited by Barratt Homes to help create new signs promoting road safety in our village. The children had so much fun designing their posters, we can’t wait to find out who has won and to see the final signs take pride of place at Helme Ridge!”
