Companies Urged to Plan Biomass Usage Now Before Another Beast from the East Winter

Organisations across Yorkshire are being warned not to be caught out this year and to prepare further in advance for all heating and energy requirements in case of another ‘Beast from the East’ winter.

Y Pellets is advising customers to think ahead given last year’s events which saw the company delivering thousands of extra tonnes of biomass wood pellets at very short notice to assist UK organisations that had failed to plan or had no contingency procedures in place.

Supplying to customers nationwide, the company has more than 5,000 tonnes stored at its dedicated distribution facility in Goole and is soon to start construction of a new multi-million pounds, advanced manufacturing wood refinery. It is now working with existing clients nationwide and across different industries to pre-plan delivery schedules and pre-empt their required pellet stock levels based upon anticipated energy usage should the ‘Beast’ return.

Chris Wilson, General Manager of Y Pellets explained, “Despite the weather warnings, some organisations still left it very late to order wood pellets last year with certain companies being totally caught out by the harsh weather conditions. Clients, especially those in more remote or rural locations such as hotel destinations or agriculture producers, as well as those with constant heating demands like residential care homes, schools and public buildings, should start considering now the real possibility that this could happen again and pre-plan as much as possible, estimating their biomass requirements.

“Last year, our drivers worked around the clock and pulled out all the stops to ensure that both private and commercial customers had enough fuel to serve their energy requirements and appreciation of their efforts was very well received. Whilst we meet agreed customer timeframes in almost all cases, we are still encouraging organisations to get in touch now, despite how early it seems, to discuss, pre-plan and ensure that time is on their side and they aren’t left without energy supplies in extreme weather conditions.”

Y Pellets is also advising companies using biomass boiler systems to act now and improve their energy efficiency by carrying out periodic maintenance before the winter months. Despite running on lower supplies during the summer, the company is directing clients on best storage solutions and essential maintenance practices in order to save costs.
