With ‘Girl Therapy’ going viral on TikTok, the hashtag has reached 48.5k posts on TikTok, with many people vowing to prioritise themselves this year.

Fresha’s trend report found that two in three women are turning to beauty treatments for mental wellbeing in 2024.

What is Girl Therapy?

At first we had ‘girl dinner’, then ‘girl measuring’ and now we are facing the next iteration of the ‘girl -‘ trend.

Fresha reports that on TikTok, #GirlTherapy has amassed over 88.5 million views, as creators share their wellness and self care routines outside of traditional methods.

‘Girl Therapy’ is essentially any form of self-care (for girls) that makes you feel good, from dancing to your favourite songs while getting ready for a night out, to doing a facemask and journalling. Often these self care acts have a big beauty component too, such as ‘everything showers’, or going for a manicure.

Two thirds of women are turning to beauty experiences for mental wellbeing

Fresha’s report revealed that not only is Girl Therapy trending on TikTok but it’s also manifesting in real life.

The findings show that two-thirds (65%) of women are turning to beauty experiences that prioritise mental and emotional – over physical – health to feel uplifted.

And with more than half (52%) of men agreeing with this statement, it’s clear that people are more focused on their mental health.

The survey also found that 59% of people claim that wellness is about how they feel both mentally and emotionally, with less than a third (32%) saying it is just about how they feel physically.
