No local supermarket would be complete without the smell of fresh bread when you walk through the door, and for Asda shoppers in Pudsey, their treats are created by teenager Bethany Simpson.
18-year-old Bethany started her career at Asda just under two years ago when she was fresh out of school at the early age of 16.
Making sweet fruity pies and soft scones is the best part of the job, which Bethany has enjoyed since baking with her grandma from an early age.
Bethany works alongside her Aunt, who encouraged her to work in store because of the welcoming atmosphere and informed her of how accommodating the colleagues are of young people in education.
Working in the bakery has given her a chance to start work, giving her a head start in the retail industry after completing her education. Asda Pudsey has also given Bethany a fantastic work atmosphere and taught her how to work within a great team at the bakery.
She has also been supported in her education and ambition to become a primary school teacher.
Throughout her time at Asda, colleagues have commended her for excelling in the role and all think Bethany does an amazing job.
Bethany said: “Getting your first job is very daunting but everyone was so friendly and made it very comfortable for me when I first started.
“The best thing about working here is how welcoming everyone is. All the colleagues make you feel at ease, so you have no worries about starting work which makes it the perfect place for young people like me.”
