During a routine visit to Cherry Trees Care home in Rotherham, The South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue made dreams come true when they welcomed enthusiastic residents on a tour of the truck as honorary firefighters.
Resident Barry Greenwood, aged 90, was one of the lucky ones who took part in a detailed tour at the Orchard Care Home and was able to meet the crew of local firefighters, explore the engine and the equipment and even try on the uniform.
Barry was thrilled by the visit and told staff and fellow residents about the highlight of his day. He said “I really enjoyed being able to look around the fire engine and try on the uniform. I especially liked wearing the hat as I felt like a real firefighter.”
Sharron Whaley, Home Manager, took to social media to thank the crew for their extended visit and said “Residents and staff really enjoyed learning about the role of the firefighters and how they control the variety of fires they meet and put out. I would like to thank The South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue for taking the time out of their busy day to interact with our residents and put a smile on their faces.”
