A member of the Bannatyne health club in York has committed to cycling 600km during Lent to raise money for St Leonard’s Hospice and the Our Lady’s Church roof appeal.
Linda Staveley, who is turning 60 in August, planned the cycle to commemorate her milestone birthday and to raise money for the local charities. Linda engages in wider fundraising activities along with fellow members of the York Darts Promotions (YDP) and York Angling Promotions (YAP).
Linda said: “In November 2000, I sadly lost my husband Graham to amyloidosis, and since then, I have done the Race for Life to help to raise money for cancer charities. I play darts and I am part of the YDP team, helping to raise money for chosen charities each year, and this year it is St Leonard’s Hospice.”
Throughout Lent, Linda is completing the 600km cycle at the Bannatyne health club in York on one of the club’s bikes. The money raised will be shared between St Leonard’s Hospice and Our Lady’s Church to help re-build its roof following a collapse in July 2019.
Linda continued: “The staff at Bannatyne’s have been so supportive with my fundraising so far. They have given me many words of encouragement when I needed them most and have been checking up on my progress. So far, I have managed to complete 120km in six days*!”
Kevin Easley, general manager of Bannatyne York, said: “Linda has made fantastic progress so far and she has put her all into this cycle. Her fundraising efforts are admirable, and we all wish her the best of luck for the rest of the challenge!”
Linda added: “I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family and friends, and I’m proud to be a part of a much bigger fundraising initiative with the YDP and YAP, well done to everyone.
“I’d like to take a moment to remember my wonderful husband, and anyone else who has lost their fight to a critical illness, after all, that’s why I do the fundraising.”
